The first question almost every traveler asks when planning a trip to Hoi An is simple: where should I stay? Right inside the Old Town so you can walk everywhere? Near An Bang or Cua Dai beach? Or somewhere a little quieter, where you actually sleep well at night?
We are a local Hoi An family and have been welcoming guests since 2018. Here is our honest take on each area, so you can pick the one that fits your trip.

1. Staying inside Hoi An Old Town
Pros: a few minutes’ walk to the Japanese Covered Bridge, the night market and the Hoai River. Great if you only have one night.
Cons:
- Rooms cost noticeably more than similar rooms nearby.
- It can be noisy at night, especially in high season and on full-moon nights.
- Very few Old Town hotels have a pool or a real garden.
- Cars are restricted on many streets, so arriving with luggage is harder.
2. Staying near An Bang or Cua Dai beach
Pros: the sea on your doorstep and plenty of resorts.
Cons: you are 4–6km from the Old Town, so every evening out means a taxi. Beachfront resorts are rarely budget friendly.
3. Cam Nam Island: close, yet calm
Cam Nam Island sits just across the Hoai River from the Old Town, connected by the Cam Nam Bridge. It is a local neighborhood of small lanes, vegetable gardens, bamboo and a slower rhythm of life.
| Destination | Distance from Fairy Garden Villa |
|---|---|
| Hoi An Old Town | ~2.2km (15 min by bike, 5 min by scooter) |
| Tra Que Vegetable Village | ~3.8km |
| Cua Dai Beach | ~5km |
| Da Nang Airport | ~32km |
Pros:
- Real peace and quiet. No bar music through your window, just birds and rustling bamboo.
- Safe, village-style living. The neighbors around the villa are long-established Hoi An families who all know each other.
- Better value than equivalent rooms in town.
- Authentic local life: family-run eateries, a morning market, riverside roads.
- Still close to the Old Town, just one bridge away.
A neighborhood where everyone knows each other

What surprises guests most about Cam Nam is how safe it feels. Around Fairy Garden Villa there are no blocks of short-term rentals changing hands, only Hoi An families who have lived here for generations. They meet at the morning market, chat on their porches in the afternoon and help each other out whenever there is a family occasion: a traditional Vietnamese village, just one bridge from the Old Town.
Because everyone knows everyone, neighbors look out for each other, and for each other’s guests. You can cycle home in the evening or stroll around the lanes with peace of mind, and don’t be surprised when the aunties and uncles next door smile and say hello.
Cons (honestly): the lane is not as brightly lit as the Old Town at night, and you won’t see the lanterns from your doorstep. That is why we lend free bicycles, show you the best-lit route, and book a ride for you whenever you need (Grab or a scooter takes only 5–10 minutes).

So, where should you stay?
- One night, want to walk everywhere: the Old Town.
- The beach is your main goal: An Bang or Cua Dai.
- Two nights or more, want calm, safety, a pool and fair prices while staying close to town: Cam Nam Island is well worth considering.
